Jiangsu increases efforts for flood control

Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Committee, presided a meeting of its Standing Committee over the study and implementation of an instruction by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC China Central Committee, on flood prevention and rescue work.

The meeting made new decisions over Jiangsu’s flood prevention and rescue and relief work. The coastal province has a longer rainy season this year with strong rainfall locally and flood from other areas.

The Jiangsu section of the Yangtze River, Taihu Lake and Qinhuai River have all reported waters higher than the alert level and may reach the peak soon. The province is facing a daunting challenge brought by rising water level in rivers and lakes and now in a crucial period of flood control. The meeting has urged Party committees and governments at all levels to take full responsibilities, make the best efforts, and guard against all risks to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and minimize property damage.
