Epidemic control authorities in Yancheng and Suzhou have both issued health notices after South Korea has raised its coronavirus alert to the "highest level" and overtaken Japan as the second worst-hit country with rising number of confirmed cases and deaths.
South Korea contributes most foreign investment to Yancheng and is also the city’s second largest trade partner. Yancheng also plays a special role in China-South Korea economic relations as it is home to the China-South Korea Industrial Park, the industrial cluster of South Korea-invested companies, and bilateral trade and logistics base. Yancheng is a role model for friendly exchanges between China and South Korea and a preferred destination for the neighboring country’s tourists. With about 1,000 South Korea-invested companies, Yancheng is one of the top hubs of investment from the country in Jiangsu Province and the Yangtze River Delta Region.
Yancheng’s work leading group for the prevention and control of the epidemic said the two sides have enjoyed friendly exchanges and cooperation in many fields and South Koreans studying or working in Yancheng have always been regarded as “new citizens.”
The statement called for South Koreans who have returned to and resided in Yancheng to keep a close eye on their health at home and comply with management and services from local communities, medical authorities and police. For short-term victors from South Korea, they will receive medical observation at hotels designated by the government. People who have showed symptoms of fever and cough need to seek treatment and receive medical observation at designated hospitals. Confirmed cases will receive same treatment as locals in the city.
At present, Yancheng has taken measures for travelers entering through Yancheng Nanyang International Airport, such as health checks and registration of personal information.
On February 25, Suzhou also published an open letter to foreigners, saying the global epidemic situation remains grim and complex.
The letter called for foreigners to improve their self-protection, restrict activities outside home, avoid crowded places or gathering, wear a mask correctly, and practice good hygiene.
Foreigners who have symptoms of fever, cough, headache or breathing difficulty are urged to go to the following designated hospitals:
Suzhou Kowloon Hospital
Add.: No. 118 Wansheng Rd., Suzhou Industrial Park
Tel: 0512-62629999
Benq Medical Center
Add.: No.181 Zhuyuan Rd., Suzhou High Tech Zone
Tel: 0512-80838800
Foreigners in seeking treatment at the two hospitals also need to report their travel history and close contacts who might be exposed.
Meanwhile, foreigners who have recently arrived Suzhou from Japan and South Korea need to report themselves to residential communities, share information of travel history, and also self-isolate at home for 14 days.
