A 5-month fishing ban will be imposed in Hongze Lake in Jiangsu Province in a bid to protect the fishery resources and replenish the fish stocks.

The fishing ban will go into force on February 1 and last until June 30. During the fishing moratorium, all fishing activities are banned in the lake area. Meanwhile, Hongze Lake Fisheries Management Office will release fish fry and crabs worth 6 million yuan ($867,692) to replenish the stocks.

Hongze Lake, the fourth largest freshwater lake in China, boasts superior natural conditions and abundant aquatic plants and animal resources.
