Jiangsu has rolled out a new rule to regulate the administration of electric tricycles used in the booming express delivery industry, according to a circular issued by Jiangsu Provincial Postal Administration and Jiangsu Department of Public Security on January 7.
The regulation makes specific, unified requirements over both a rider’s compliance with driving and parking rules and the characteristics of the vehicle, such as registration, technical standards, appearance, insurance and management.
When such requirements are met, delivery workers will be able to ride the tricycles in downtown areas of many cities in the province, which previously banned such vehicles. This new regulation will benefit over 300,000 delivery workers in the province.
Yang Yuexin, director of the Market Supervision Department of Jiangsu Provincial Postal Administration, said in recent years, the province has actively promoted the standardized administration of express delivery vehicles to ensure the sector’s healthy development and also improve the service level.
