Promoting cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to improve people's livelihood can also inject vitality into the emotional connection between the people of the two sides, said experts from Taiwan and the Chinese mainland.
They made the remarks at the ninth "Cross-Strait Scholars Face-to-Face" event held at Xiamen University in Fujian province on Thursday to discuss methods to promote cross-Strait integration and development from a perspective of mutual cooperation on people's livelihood.
Tseng Hua-yuan, a professor from Tunghai University in Taiwan, said the topic of improving people's livelihood is common for both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan and is of great help to the integration of the two sides of the strait.
He said that cross-Strait cooperation on people's livelihood exchanges should be built on the foundation of mutual trust and mutual benefit.
Gao Herong, a professor from Xiamen University, said that although there are subtle differences in daily language usage and lifestyle habits between the two sides, overall, people on both sides share the same roots and cultural similarities, highlighting the necessity of people's livelihood exchanges and cooperation.
He said that only by ensuring stability and promoting the well-being of the people can cross-Strait integration and the spiritual connection between the people on both sides be enhanced.
