Fangting Shuiyuan (Fangting Water Courtyard), a landmark public building in the Yangtze River Delta's demonstration zone for green and integrated ecological development, received its project completion certificate on May 28.

The demonstration zone comprises Qingpu District of Shanghai, Wujiang District of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, and Jiashan County in Zhejiang Province. The boundary of the two provinces and one municipality converges at the Taipu River, where the new building is located.

As the first public building in China that spans two provinces and one municipality, the design looks like a siheyuan, a traditional Chinese architectural style featuring a courtyard enclosed by buildings on all four sides.

The structure covers a total floor area of 104,000 square meters and includes a main hall and four exhibition halls themed around Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui - one at each corner. These halls are connected by three corridor bridges, allowing visitors to walk through areas under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai in just 15 minutes.

This building combines traditional Chinese dougong bracket sets with steel structures. Aiming to lead in both energy efficiency and technological innovation, it achieves a comprehensive energy-saving rate of 82%. Photovoltaic panels on the corridor bridges and rooftop are expected to generate 4.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
