The China Pavilion of Expo 2025 in Osaka launched its Jiangsu Week event on May 20 under the theme of partnering with Jiangsu to create a green future, showcasing the province’s cultural heritage, city brands, and business ties with Japan.

Jiangsu is one of China’s regions with the longest and closest ties to Japan, and also the area with the highest concentration of Japanese investment in the country. It has consistently been an important participant in the history of the World Expo.

The opening ceremony featured a performance combining classical Kunqu Opera with the dynamic appeal of modern dance, an ensemble that integrated the timeless Jasmine melody with traditional Chinese instruments, and promotions of several cities including Wuxi, Xuzhou, Suzhou, Yancheng, Yangzhou and Taizhou.

The Jiangsu Week event also included a dinner with Japanese business leaders and economic and trade exchange meetings.

During the 3-day event, masters of time-honored crafts will showcase Suzhou-style embroidery, pingtan (storytelling and ballad singing), guqin (a traditional string instrument), and Yixing clay teapots. Furthermore, the China Pavilion will highlight other intangible cultural heritage from various cities, such as Nanjing’s Yunjin brocade, Changzhou combs, Taizhou woodcarving, and Xuzhou scented sachets.
