The Confucius Temple in Nanjing is usually crowded with visitors during the Lantern Festival, a Chinese festival celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month or February 8 this year, as it hosts the world-known Qinhuai International Lantern Festival.

The annual festival, the largest in China and a great chance to experience traditional culture, attracted about 500,000 visitors both in 2018 and 2019. However, to battle the novel coronavirus outbreak this year, the administrative committee of the Confucius Temple-Qinhuai River scenic spot had to close the top tourism attraction and Laodongmen Historic Block from January 25, making this place rarely empty and tranquil.
