Twenty artisans competed in a competition of stir-frying Biluochun tea leaf in Suzhou City on the morning of March 21.

Biluochun is a famous green tea originally grown in the Dongting mountain region near Lake Taihu in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Biluochun tea-making technique was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2011.

The vocational skills competition was organized by the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Department in Wuzhong District, Suzhou, in the form of tests of theory and practice.

Zhu Jiwei, director of the department, said the competition helps pass on the tea-making technique, promote the Dongting Biluochun tea culture and inspire more young artisans to work in the field.

Contestants are all under 45 years old and 80% of them are the second generation of tea-making specialists in their families.

Wang Runxian, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Tea Association, said that the tea industry can have a sustainable and healthy development with the joining of young people, and it also constantly support rural revitalization.
