A delegation from Japan visited the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders in Nanjing on July 14.
The delegation of 14 members, most of whom are under 40 years old, is the 29th team organized the “peace journey to China” initiative, launched by Ishikawa Katsumi in 1991.
The 77-year-old mentioned that many young Japanese are peace-loving and anti-war, acknowledging Japan's past invasion and aspiring for a deeper understanding through the visit.
In addition to the memorial hall, the destinations also include the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Beijing, the Exhibition Hall of Evidences of Crime Committed by Unit 731 of the Japanese Imperial Army in Harbin, and the 9.18 Historical Museum in Shenyang.
About 1,300 Japanese youths have participated in such visits to China since 1991. After each visit, group members usually hold three domestic events, each lasting three days, to share their impressions, organize information, and compile books.
Ishikawa Katsumi said he hopes that Japanese youth can understand the historical truths through these journeys, which are crucial for Sino-Japanese friendly exchanges and a peaceful environment.
