Pear Flowers Tourism and Culture Festival opens in Shushan

Shushan Village in Tong’an Town, Suzhou New District opened the Pear Flowers Tourism and Culture Festival on March 22.

The festival, which will last until May 3, includes 12 series of activities, such as a poetry event for primary and secondary school students, a nursery rhyme competition, pear tree adoption, and an activity to bond with nature. Many events will make a great integration of culture, music and food.

The festival is an important initiative of the district to highlight its position as the hub of Jiangnan culture. At the beginning of this year, Suzhou launched the 3-year branding campaign, which would promote the research, development and promotion of Jiangnan culture.

Shushan Village has all kinds of hotels, lodges and farmhouses. It received 935,000 visitors throughout the year and achieved a tourism revenue of 146 million yuan.

In addition, the village’s artist-in-residence program has now attracted more than 20 artists from the UK, France, Germany, Slovenia, Poland and other countries in the fields of theatre, music and dance. Masters of intangible cultural heritages also open workshops in the town.
