The Jiangsu section of the Yixing-Changxing Expressway, the first inter-provincial expressway to be connected by tunnels in the coastal province, has passed the acceptance review organized by the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Transportation Engineering Construction on January 12.
The expressway linking Yixing in Jiangsu and Changxing in the neighboring Zhejiang Province is the second passage between Nanjing and Hangzhou, capital cities of the two provinces. It will shorten the journey from Nanjing to Anji in Zhejiang by about 40 kilometers via Yixing.
Construction of the expressway, an important part of Jiangsu’s highway network, started in July 2018 and completed in this month.
According to Lian Qiang, deputy head of the construction management, the six-lane expressway includes four tunnels, with the longest at 6,908 meters long. The speed limits range from 100 km/h for tunnel road to 120 km/h for non-tunnel section.
The expressway also features a beautiful view of the natural landscape as it passes the lush Meizi Hill, Mountain Miao and Putao Hill. Lian said, in order to preserve the original landscape, construction of the expressway has adopted a series of measures and local characteristics were also featured in building and landscaping. As a result, the new expressway is expected to become a scenic route too.
