The Tongyu River Bridge, a core part of the Yancheng-Nantong High-speed Railway under construction, completed linking on March 23 after the last steel arch was put into place.
The continuous beam- arch bridge is 451 meters long and includes a span of 228 meters. It is the largest such railway structure in China for bullet trains running up to 350 kilometers per hour. The bridge’s building progress will ensure the timely completion of the whole railway project.
The North Jiangsu Railway Engineering Construction Headquarters organized the builders to optimize the design and management, which shortened the construction period by 3 months. Efforts were also made to solve key technical problems in order to ensure quality and efficiency.
The 156.6km-long railway is a key coastal part of China’s ambitious plan to build the “Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal” high-speed rail network. It has a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour and seven stops – Yancheng, Dafeng, Dongtai, Hai’an, Rugao, Pingdong and Nantong West. After the railway service opens, it will further improve the bullet train network in central and northern Jiangsu and facilitate the travel among cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
