Japanese dairy firm Yakult signed a deal to expand its factory in the east Chinese city of Wuxi on April 16.
With a total investment of 300 million yuan, the factory is the first large foreign investment project in the city since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Yakult, one of the largest probiotic dairy product makers in the world, has a history of production and sales of nearly 90 years, selling 40 million bottles per day in 40 countries and regions.
Yakult’s first plant in Wuxi, which opened in 2015, mainly produces two kinds of milk products. The Wuxi factory has nine production lines with daily production capacity of 4.05 million bottles. In 2017, Yakult then opened a sales center in the Wuxi National Hi-Tech District (WND).
To meet the growing market demand, Yakult has decided to build the second factory in an area of 6.67 hectares.
