Wuxi’s Haocha green tea saw a nearly 70-fold increase in sales on the single day of March 21 during a live streaming promotion watched by tens of thousands of viewers online.
Yu Miao, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau of Binhu, took on a new role at a tea plantation to showcase local tea features and selection tips, an event broadcast live on the Internet.
More than 40,000 viewers watched the live show that also included knowledge sharing, tea leave roasting, tea making and tasting. The event received 80,000 likes online and also stimulated the sales to reach a record.
Haocha became quite popular after six years of development that began in 1979. It is characterized by green color, delicate aroma, mellow taste and striking shape. At present, Binhua District has a total Haocha planting area of about 6,500 mu (433 hectares) and annual output of about 167 tons.
