East China’s Jiangsu Province has actively promoted the application of digital technologies to improve the public service system for fitness and physical activity, especially for the fitness trails.
In offering fitness spaces for all and assisting the sports industry, the province went all out to embrace digital transformation and smart technologies. In recent years, the extensive use of information technology has significantly upgraded mass sports venues in residential communities, park trails and footpaths along rivers, lakes and mountains.
By scanning a QR code, residents can easily keep track of their workout data, such as duration and distance in real time.
Footpaths empowered by smart technologies make workout much easier and targeted. For example, the Fitness Trail around the Shangxian River in Wuxi City wonders through a wetland park and measures 4.5 kilometers long and 5 meters wide. Along the route are smart paths and interactive screens to give a full picture of all workout information, including the ranking of users, while the Big Data cloud platform also provides tutoring and other insights.
The ultrafast 5G mobile network not only shapes the intelligent manufacturing but also changes people’s life for the better. The province’s sports authorities have supported the pilot projects of combining 5G and sports to continuously improve people's wellbeing.
To take another example, the 5-km fitness trail in the Chinese Begonia Garden in Yancheng City has employed two AI-powered screens and eight devices for facial and body recognition. Users can adjust their workout plans by comparing the data after each session so the exercise becomes more scientific and customized.
Running enthusiast Zhang Wei said all kinds of data, such as calories burned, metabolic equivalents, distance, the expected time to run a marathon and historical information, become very handy thanks to the digital transformation.
As the host city of the Jiangsu Provincial Games this year, Taizhou is in full swing to increase the number of small and medium-sized smart sports facilities. The fitness trail in People's Park features an interactive screen to introduce the running tips. Runners can install an app, input the information of height and weight, and then start the running along the trail.
