Lianyungang City has put into use remotely controlled lane-changing systems to reduce traffic congestion, the first of its kind in Jiangsu Province.

In the morning rush-hour on May 7, a police officer used a cellphone to move the barrier in the middle of a road towards one side, increasing the lanes from two to three on the other side in just 30 seconds. Meanwhile, related road signs were also changed accordingly.

The robotic system, 130 meters long, uses intelligent control technologies and pulleys to make moves easily. Police can change the lanes through an app in a short time, in accordance to the traffic.
