Two farmers from Haizhou District, Lianyungang city sent three tons of sweet potatoes and carrots to the city’s front-line medics and other workers combating the novel coronavirus outbreak on February 2.
The donators were the 54-year-old Zhang Zhi and her business partner Li Ping who have contracted 200 mu (13.33 hectares) of land in Donghai County. The quality seasonal harvests were given to those fighting on the front line of the coronavirus outbreak.
"At the critical moment in the fight against the epidemic, I strongly feel that I should do something for the country. Especially when I saw a proposal of the All-China Women's Federation, forwarded by the Hongmen Street Women's Federation, this idea became even stronger," said Zhang.
Instead of donating money, which Zhang thought might be barely enough to have an effect, she hopes her farm products can help satisfy food needs in real terms. “I think it is very meaningful to care for those who gave up their Spring Festival holiday for epidemic control and prevention in this way.”
On February 2, the front-line workers at Lianyungang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, the Second Brigade under the Traffic Police Detachment of the local public security bureau, Jianghua Community, the Xinhai Police Station, the Hongmen Health Center and Xinghua Community all received this special gift.
"The epidemic is still spreading but the sweet potatoes and carrots have showed people’s understanding and support for us and this is heartwarming. I believe that with the joint efforts of everyone, everything will be well soon," said Mr. Li, the head of the hospital.
Zhang Bo, an instructor at Hongmen Police Station, also said: “This is the most precious gift we have received. The support is worth the pain."
