Nanjing became the first city in China to realize a 24-hour unmanned monitoring of underground high-voltage power lines as the system was launched on the city’s smart grid management platform on January 10.
The real-time monitoring means Nanjing can now improve the rapid response in case of power distribution faults within seconds.
The tunnel, 5.9 kilometers long under the Qinhuai River, is a major utility to link power grid in eastern and western downtown Nanjing. The system collects information from over 800 sensors of 53 types inside the tunnel, capable of comprehensive monitoring, data sharing, automatic warning and intelligent response.
Jiangsu has accelerated efforts to support artificial intelligence, Big Data, cloud computing and other fields in order to boost the digital technology development. To develop a smart grid system, the Nanjing subsidiary of State Grid has achieved seven technical breakthroughs and made progress in many aspects.
