Yangtze River Delta sets new economic records in Q1

The Yangtze River Delta, encompassing Shanghai, and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui, has achieved economic milestones in the first quarter of the year.

Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui reported gross domestic product (GDP) of over 1.109 trillion yuan, 3.102 trillion yuan, 2.013 trillion yuan, and 1.129 trillion yuan, respectively, marking year-on-year growths of 5.0%, 6.2%, 6.1%, and 5.2%.

As one of the most vibrant, open and innovative city clusters in China, the delta region boasted a GDP of over 7.35 trillion yuan in the period, accounting for 24.82% of the national total. It has continued to play its role as a stabilizer and a dynamic growth engine in the world's second-largest economy.

The new milestones included Jiangsu and Zhejiang’s GDP surpassing the 3 and 2-trillion-yuan thresholds, respectively. Furthermore, the per capita disposable income stood at 24,640 yuan in Shanghai and 21,352 yuan in Zhejiang, ranking first and third nationwide. Jiangsu and Anhui reported per capita disposable incomes of 18,086 yuan and 10,591 yuan, up 5.3% and 5.7% year-on-year, respectively.

Jiangsu has planned a total annual investment of 640.8 billion yuan in 510 key projects, with 166.9 billion yuan invested in the first quarter, achieving a completion rate higher than the same period last year.

In the first quarter, Shanghai's fixed-asset investment rose by 9.2% year-on-year. Notably, manufacturing investment grew by 13.4%, driven by projects in high-end chip research and development and semiconductor materials.
