Lianyungang Huaguoshan International Airport completed its flight test trial on September 9 after an Airbus A320 of Juneyao Airlines landed on the runway successfully.
The 2-hour test flight verified various systems in the airport, including flight procedures, minimum performance criteria and communication navigation. The newly built airport will continue other tests, drills and preparations with a goal of being put into service within the year.
Located in Xiaoyi Town of Guanyun County, the airport is 21.5 kilometers away from downtown Lianyungang, with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers and 24,000 tons of cargo per year.
Construction of the airport started in September 2019. It will serve as a regional hub to support the Belt and Road initiative and promote the two-way opening up with links running eastward and westward and other major development strategies in the country.
