Jiangsu delegation’s meeting at NPC session attracts global media attention

The Jiangsu delegation to the second session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's national legislature, held a plenary meeting on the morning of March 7 to deliberate the government work report delivered by Premier Li Qiang on behalf of the State Council. The meeting in the Great Hall of the People was open to the news media from home and abroad, attracting nearly 100 journalists from almost 60 organizations.

In the meeting, Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, said that Jiangsu has made steady progress in increasing investment in basic research, deepening the reform of S&T and talent development systems, and fostering innovation-driven enterprises. The province will focus on sci-tech and industrial innovation, consolidate its leading market position in traditional industries, accelerate the creation of international competitive hubs for strategic emerging industries, and actively facilitate investment in future industries.

Wei Qiao, chairwoman of the Yongxing Agricultural Machinery Mechanization Cooperative in Zhenjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone, said her team is promoting the construction of three breeding centers for rice, wheat and beef cattle, and had trained over 3,000 people last year. She advocated for the integrated development of the agricultural industry chain to enhance the income of farmers, and to attract more young people to participate in rural revitalization.

Jiangsu’s vice governor Hu Guangjie emphasized the province’s strengths of having a complete range of manufacturing categories and a strong capacity for innovation. Jiangsu has more than 50 enterprises listed among China's top 500 manufacturing enterprises, over 20 industrial enterprises with a revenue exceeding 100 billion yuan each. The province will be committed to developing new quality productivity forces according to local conditions, and raise the manufacturing industry to a higher level.

Chen Tao, director of the provincial Department of Commerce, said Jiangsu has implemented regulations to promote and protect foreign investment, strengthened fiscal, taxation, finance and other policy supports, and also enhanced professional services related to talent, international certification, intellectual property rights and foreign-related law.
