On March 6, the Jiangsu delegation to the second session of the 14th National People's Congress held plenary and group meetings to deliberate the government work report made by Premier Li Qiang, and review the budget report and draft.

Lou Qinjian emphasized that to enhance the high-level opening up, it’s necessary to vigorously promote the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, expand the network of high-standard free trade zones, and improve the quality of trade and investment cooperation. He also highlighted the need to foster a market-oriented and world-class business environment underpinned by a sound legal framework, and to make progress in developing foreign-related legal system.

Zhang Zhong said that discipline inspection and supervision organs should intensify the fight against corruption, improve the supervision system, and enhance governance effectiveness, providing a strong guarantee for Jiangsu’s piloting of the Chinese path to modernization.

Chu Yonghong mentioned that the new quality productive forces will act as more powerful driver of high-quality development. With efforts in sci-tech innovation, coordinated regional development, high-level opening up, and sustained improvement of people's livelihood, there will be more confidence in China's steady economic growth.

Focusing on the key tasks of fostering new quality productive forces, deepening reform and opening up, and facilitating coordinated regional development, the regional people's congress should enforce effective supervision in accordance with the law, according to Fan Jinlong.

Hu Guangjie noted the need to promote stable growth of the industrial economy, enhance industrial technological innovation, support industrial digital and intelligent transformation, ensure workplace safety, and consolidate the positive momentum of economic recovery.

Lyu Jian stressed the necessity to accelerate the building of world-class universities with Chinese characteristics. He suggested strengthening the talent training system and the pro-innovation system.

In group deliberations, the term “the new quality productivity forces,” introduced for the first time in the government work report, garnered widespread attention. Liu Qing said efforts are needed to co-ordinate sci-tech innovation and industrial innovation, promote the flow of pro-innovation factors on a larger scale, and advance the deep integration of sci-tech innovation and industrial development in the Yangtze River Delta.

Chen Wei called for enhancing the reform of education, focusing on the commercialization of scientific research results, and strengthening the talent cultivation.

This year's government work report featured a series of initiatives addressing the public’s needs at various levels. Xu Haoyu commented that the report fully responds to the concerns of all parties. Notably, the policy initiatives closely align with reality, the people and enterprises.
