Jiangsu deputies to NPC session share development highlights

On the afternoon of March 5, President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, took part in a deliberation with his fellow deputies from the delegation of Jiangsu Province at the second session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's national legislature.

Jiangsu reported remarkable progress in 2023, including a GDP growth of 5.8%, which is 0.6 percentage points higher than the national average, and five cities achieving a GDP exceeding one trillion yuan each.

Gao Jifan, chairman of Trina Solar, mentioned the company’s cooperation with 18 enterprises both upstream and downstream to establish a photovoltaic manufacturing innovation center. President Xi inquired about various aspects of the company, including its construction of laboratories, industrial layout within the country, investments and development along the Belt and Road Initiative areas, as well as the challenges faced.

During the discussion, Cui Tiejun, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, shared his scientific research experience. He stressed that his team will persist in advancing leading technologies, contributing to the development of new quality productive forces and promoting high-quality growth.

In November 2020, President Xi visited Nantong City to inspect the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, as well as to review the ecological and environmental protection along the river.

Wu Xinming, secretary of the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee, said that the city has focused on high-quality and integrated development, promoting coordinated growth between the sea and river, actively aligning with Shanghai, and enhancing its role as a support point in the delta region’s integration.

As deputy director of the Nanjing Museum Administration, Song Yan, with 35 years of experience in the cultural and museum sectors, introduced the construction and operation of the city’s museums.
