The China Grand Canal Museum in the city of Yangzhou will host Jiangsu Province's main event on May 13, to celebrate the International Museum Day, which falls on May 18 every year.
Jiangsu will organize nearly 1,000 online and offline activities to mark the occasion, which highlights the important role museums play in heritage preservation, cultural exchange, education and community development.

The China Grand Canal Museum and Nanjing Museum will also showcase VR-powered immersive exhibitions at the event, highlighting the deep integration of technology and cultural heritage.
As the birthplace of China's modern museum sector, Jiangsu currently has 362 registered museums, ranking among the top in the country.
Over the past year, museums in the province have held nearly 2,500 exhibitions, and some digital preservation projects were recognized as national demonstration cases.
During the May Day holiday this year, the museums in Jiangsu received a total of 5.317 million visitors, a year-on-year increase of 31.5%. Notably, the cultural and creative product sales at museums exceeded 21.045 million yuan.
