Two majestic dragon-shaped lighting designs led the Lunar New Year lantern festival, which opened on Dongguan Street in Yangzhou City on February 6.
Each design, measuring 10 meters long and three meters high, were crafted using traditional lantern-making techniques now recognized as intangible cultural heritage, according to Sun Yubo, a master lantern maker. The dragon head features a color scheme of Chinese style, and the body part employs the thermal-transfer printing on silk fabric.
The lantern festival showcases nine groups of designs, creating a lively festive atmosphere along the ancient street known for restaurants, shops and crafts.
In addition, the grand gate leading to the street has been adorned with a pair of 8-meter-long Spring Festival couplets.
On the same day, performers from over 200 folk troupes participated in a parade, further enlivening the popular tourist destination.
