Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, met with a delegation led by Gavin Newsom, governor of the U.S. state of California, in Yancheng City on October 28. On behalf of the Party committee and the provincial government, Xin extended a warm welcome to the delegation, emphasizing that Jiangsu and California have enjoyed friendly relations for nearly 40 years and also achieved fruitful cooperation across multiple fields.

During the deeper study and implementation of the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speeches, Jiangsu is vigorously promoting the green and low-carbon transformation of its development mode, and accelerating the advancement of modernization featuring the harmony between human and nature, Xin added.

He also said the province is willing to work with California to earnestly implement the important consensus reached at the Bali meeting between President Xi and President Biden, further expand tow-way trade and investment, and promote cooperation in areas such as green growth and climate change. Jiangsu hopes to advance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enhance the cooperation between the two sides, and make greater contributions to the healthy and stable development of China-US relations.

Newsom praised Jiangsu's development vitality and its achievements, especially in the new energy sector. He said California hopes to deepen its partnership with Jiangsu and strengthen exchanges in climate change, economy, trade and people-to-people ties for win-win development.

Following the meeting, Xin and Newsom signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening climate and environmental cooperation between the provincial government and the government of the state of California.

The delegation also toured the wind turbine factory of Goldwind, a global leader in clean energy, located in Dafeng District of Yancheng, and invited the company to expand its investment and business operations in California. During the exchange, the two sides also discussed desalination, wind-to-hydrogen and other issues while planning for more mutually beneficial cooperation.

Yancheng is home to the world's largest winter habitat for the red-crowned crane. During the visit to the Wetland Rare Birds National Nature Reserve, Newsom and his wife were encouraged to name a crane “California” as the lovely bird followed the visitors during their tour.
