The 2023 China (Xuzhou) Han Culture and Tourism Festival opened amid the art gala of the 2nd Han Culture Forum at Yunlonghu Scenic Area on September 22.
This festival aims to showcase Han-themed cultural and tourism resources to boost consumer spending and foster the integrated growth of the cultural and tourism sectors. Xuzhou aspires to solidify its standing as a premier location to understand and celebrate Han culture.

A wide range of programs will be held from Sept. 22 to mid November during the festival, such as shows of Hanfu, the historical Han Chinese outfit that is making its comeback. The city will feature food specialties, performances and drone shows that combine historical and modern elements.

To ensure a comprehensive portrayal of Han culture, authorities at the city and county levels will cooperate closely, both online and onsite, to host nearly 50 events across five categories.

Xuzhou will also implement other measures to facilitate cultural and tourism activities. The city will offer free admission to its 40 A-level scenic spots, extend hours for cultural centers, museums and libraries, open special bus routes during the National Day holiday, and issue coupons on various platforms to boost cultural and tourism spending.

Historically known as Pengcheng, Xuzhou is the birthplace of Liu Bang, the first emperor of the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), and the former capital designated by Xiang Yu when he proclaimed himself Overlord of Western Chu. Xuzhou has witnessed important events in the imperial dynasty and is often credited as the cradle of Han culture.
Endowed with rich cultural and tourism resources, Xuzhou as a famous historical and cultural city has embraced its prime opportunity of development, setting a new record high in tourism revenue. In the first half of 2023, the amount of tourists rose to 47.8 million, an year-on-year increase of 43.88%, up 20.31% from the year of 2019.
