Historically known as Pengcheng, Xuzhou is the birthplace of Liu Bang, the first emperor of the Han Dynasty (206 BCE–220 CE), and the former capital designated by Xiang Yu when he proclaimed himself Overlord of Western Chu. Xuzhou has witnessed important events in the imperial dynasty and is often credited as the cradle of Han culture.
Endowed with rich cultural and tourism resources, Xuzhou as a famous historical and cultural city has embraced its prime opportunity of development, setting a new record high in tourism revenue. In the first half of 2023, the amount of tourists rose to 47.8 million, an year-on-year increase of 43.88%, up 20.31% from the year of 2019.
