Wang Ran, president of the Sydney Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, studied International Finance at the China Institute of Finance and Banking and then worked in finance and investment for a long time after graduation in 1991. He received a Master's degree in International Finance from Liaoning University in 1997 and emigrated to Australia the next year, mainly working in advertisement, investment and finance since then while being passionate about activities of Chinese community organizations.
In 2004, Wang as secretary general and Qian Qiguo as president joined the Taiwan compatriots to establish the Sydney Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China. Wang has worked as the council’s president since 2009.
In 2017, at the age of 48, he was enrolled in a doctorate degree program in the School of Banking and Finance at the University of International Business and Economics and completed the PhD studies in 2021. Later, he was invited to be a guest teacher at the School of Finance, Xuzhou University of Technology, located in his hometown of Xuzhou City. He has encouraged students to become active learners, read a wide range of academic works, and develop skills to write a research paper and make a PowerPoint presentation. He also saw it important for students to enhance the abilities to analyze problem, find solutions, and conduct academic researches.
In 2022, Wang was invited to attend the National Day reception in Beijing. He said China has withstood all kinds of risks and challenges in the past decade and also accomplished many major undertakings and remarkable achievements.
“As China's comprehensive national strength continues to grow, overseas Chinese can actively participate in China’s development at broader levels. While making career progress in their countries of residence, they should also seize the opportunities brought by China's development, return to China more often to invest or promote exchanges, make friends all over the world, and build bridges for non-governmental exchanges between China and other countries," he said.
As the Spring Festival approaches, Wang is confident about 2023. "With China’s optimization of COVID-19 response measures, the international exchange and cooperation will meet new opportunities. The council I’m leading will continue to strengthen the traditional friendship between the two peoples, actively promote Australia-China youth and cultural exchanges, and pass on the torch of friendship and cooperation from generation to generation,” Wang said.
