The first all-electric tugboat in China was delivered in Lianyungang Port on August 16.
At 35.5 meters long and 10 meters wide, the tugboat has a design draught of 3.5 meters and a service speed of at least 13 knots.
The boat draws all its power from 5,000-kW lithium-ion battery packs and allows at least 8 hours’ work on a full charge as quick as in two hours through the shore power system of Lianyungang Branch of State Grid.
Compared with traditional tugboats, the electric vessel is safer because it’s not powered by fuels that can be flammable, such as diesel and liquefied gas, and also more environmentally friendly with no emissions and less noise.
The electric tugboat is estimated to save the use of 300 tons of fuel a year, equivalent to reduce 900 tons of carbon oxides. It will also promote energy saving and facilitate the port’s transformation to sustainable development.
