A China-Europe Railway Express (Suzhou) freight train returned on February 20 with loads of materials needed by Suzhou’s front-line workers to fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The train carried 10,000 N95 masks, 8,000 surgical masks, 1,500 medical isolation gowns, 500 protective suits, and 1.5 tons of sodium hypochlorite as a disinfecting agent.

After donated to Suzhou Red Cross Society, they are to be given to local hospitals, especially those designated for treating coronavirus-infected patients. Some of the materials will be provided to media outlets and help ensure safety of reporters on the front line of the battle against the epidemic.

Suzhou Newcity Investment and Development, the main operator of the freight train, has fully used its cross-border supply chain to purchase medical supplies. It cooperated with business partners in Russia, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries along the freight train service network all linked with Suzhou.

Data shows that since January 1 this year, Suzhou has run 17 China-Europe Railway Express freight trains with a total of 784 containers carrying goods valued at $69 million.
