China's success in poverty alleviation is amazing, said Chilean Ambassador to China Luis Schmidt Montes in an interview with Xinhua, adding that "you are running faster compared with the rest of the world."

The ambassador first visited China as a businessman around 30 years ago. At that time, he could foresee the Asian country's great potential for development and expanding trade with the rest of the world.

"30 years ago, China was completely different compared with today. But I can see in that moment that you have a big potential for the future," Schmidt said.

Speaking of China's development, he said, "I can see all the development that was (made) in China during the last 30 years. And what's amazing, in that moment when I arrived, the population in China was in poverty. But today you eradicated the poverty"
