Honglincuo is a well-preserved ancient dwelling compound in Xinhu Village of Fujian Province. The word cuo means dwelling place, house or small village in Fujian dialect. The family of Huang started to build the dwelling in 1795. Completed in 1823, the compound covers an area of about 17,832 square meters and has 35 halls, 666 rooms and 25 gardens. Designed and built as a whole structure, the spacious Honglincuo displays a high-level of engineering technology and architectural art through its parapets, upturned eaves, corbel arches and carving decorations. Badly damaged by a typhoon in 2016, Honglincuo completed its restoration work by the end of 2019 after receiving a donation of over 50 million yuan (about 7.14 million US dollars). It is expected to be officially reopened to the public by the end of 2020. (Xinhua/Wei Peiquan)
