Jiangsu records 900,000 train trips on first day of Spring Festival travel rush

Jiangsu’s railway network recorded 900,000 passenger trips on January 14, the first day of chunyun, the Spring Festival travel rush, with 720 passenger trains in service.

The 40-day travel period, which will continue until February 22, is expected to see an increase in travels by students, families, migrant workers, and tourists. In response, railway authorities have enhanced transport capacity in key directions and added trains to popular tourist destinations and transportation hubs.

Efforts to improve passenger experience include providing thoughtful services. For example, Yancheng Station has designated special lanes for the elderly, children, the sick, the disabled, pregnant women, and those with less than 15 minutes before train departure. Yangzhou Station has renovated its four public toilets, incorporating both infrastructure updates and the use of a smart display and monitoring system.

Railway authorities are also highlighting cultural elements in the Spring Festival celebrations. The waiting room at Yangzhou East Station hosts guzheng and pipa performances by artists donning Hanfu. Lianyungang Station showcases local crafts like paper cuttings and sugar paintings while promoting its tourism resources, such as the Huaguo Mountain, renowned as the birthplace of the Monkey King. Additionally, calligraphers write Spring Festival couplets for passengers, creating a lively and festive atmosphere at the railway station.
