To celebrate the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on the second Saturday of June, the high-speed train G7393 linking Nanjing and Shanghai featured intangible cultural heritage on June 5.

Since the Dragon Boat Festival falls on June 10, this event showcases the craft of making colorful zongzi models. Zongzi, the must-have sticky rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves is considered symbol of harvest, reunion and happiness, and is hugely popular during the traditional Chinese holiday.

The handmade zongzi model is recognized as an intangible cultural heritage in Nanjing. On the train, Han Yuru, a master of the craft, expressed hope that more people can learn about and love the craft.

“Many young people like to wear traditional Chinese attire, known as Hanfu, and the colorful zongzi models are a great match, especially the cloth ornaments and earrings made from the zongzi models,” said Han.
