Nanjing road engineer recognized as foreign member of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences
Wu Chunying, an engineer of JSTI, a Nanjing-based provider of integrated solutions in the infrastructure sector, has recently received a letter of congratulation from the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RAEN) that recognized her as the academy’s foreign member.
Established in 1990, the RAEN is one of the three largest scientific institutions in Russia and consists of prominent scientists and specialists in the field of natural sciences and the humanities. Wu has continued to make outstanding contributions to the field of "new type of road construction and maintenance materials". She was selected to be a foreign member of the RAEN in the branch of materials science after undergoing the process of recommendation, reviews, election and assessment.
Currently the chief road engineer at JSTI Transportation Research Institute, Wu is mainly engaged in research of asphalt paving materials, scheme, maintenance and testing, and has made a series of innovative achievements in road materials R&D, solid waste utilization, emission reduction technologies.
She has won honors including the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award as well as the Special S&T Award of the China Highway and Transportation Society. Wu is also the owner of 14 national patents.
In 2014, Wu was primarily engaged in the consultancy for building the Litang-Yading road in Sichuan Province, helping develop construction materials, scheme and techniques suitable for the region's low temperatures, high altitude and strong ultraviolet rays. She also participated in the renovation and expansion of the Nanjing-Xuancheng Expressway, the first role model of eco-friendly expressway construction in China.
Wu’s research priorities now include the development of road materials that can be used at normal temperatures in order to reduce the environmental impact of the road construction.
