Chinese Indonesian grateful for care received in self-quarantine in Gaochun

Chinese Indonesian Lusianna Liunata, a second-year student pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Wuhan University of Technology, has written a letter to the government of Gaochun District in Nanjing City, expressing gratitude for the care and support she received when she was quarantined in the district.

Lusianna left Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak, on January 22 for Gaochun to visit her friend during the Spring Festival holiday, just one day before Wuhan was put on lockdown in an unprecedented effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

As Gaochun started registering people from Wuhan, Lusianna went to a local hospital for registration and checks on the morning of February 23. She was also told to self-quarantine at home for 14 days.

Lusianna, who has a Chinese name Liu Meixia, said Dr. Tang and Dr. Rui from the Nanhu residential community of Chunxi Sub-district visited her every morning to measure temperature and ask about her health.

At the beginning, she worried a lot and was extremely down when reading news about development in Wuhan. Fortunately, the care from doctors, government staff and people around her made her feel relaxed. “They were warm and responsible,” Lusianna wrote in the letter.

Lusianna didn’t show any symptoms and her temperatures were always in the normal range during the period. But to reduce the risk of infection, she was always at her room and had food by herself too. The parents of her friend were allowed to go shopping at first until January 29, when they were also asked to stay at home for self-quarantine. Then community workers came to the service of the family, helping purchase fresh vegetables and meat, deliver the supplies upstairs, and dump garbage.

She said effective measures have been taken to control the epidemic in China and people really cared about her, which let her parents in Indonesia to feel relieved too. Her parents also believed that the Chinese government’s responses are decisive and rapid.

The 14-day quarantine ended on February 6 and then Lusianna returned to Indonesia on February 12. She then took the initiative to stay at home for self-quarantine again, wishing the epidemic could end soon.

“I wish to go back to school soon. Foreign students in China are looking forward to this day,” said Lusianna, who added she wants to continue studying in China after graduation.

Along with the letter of gratitude, Lusianna also tried hard to finally buy 500 surgical masks with the help of her parents and donated them to Gaochun District.

“China’s future is bound to be strong. As a Chinese Indonesia, descendants of Yan and Huang, I am proud and proud of China,” she wrote in the letter.
