Recently, a young Nigerian man can be seen at the entrance of Shepan Community, Maqun Street, Qixia District, Nanjing. He would warmly greet the residents, remind them to take temperature check and make registration.

 

His name is Olatoye Babatunde, a 24-year-old student in Nanjing University of Science＆Technology. Olatoye was very obsessed with China since childhood, especially with Chinese Kung Fu as he watched a lot of Jackie Chan’s movies. Although it turned out that not every Chinese is Kung Fu master, he found Chinese history and culture are even more fascinating. He traveled to many cities during spare time and his language skills have been significantly improved after almost four years here. 

 

Olatoye spent two Spring Festivals with Chinese families last year and the year before. He was always impressed by the joyous and harmonious atmosphere during the traditional festival. Yet Spring Festival this year has got him sad because of the epidemic that China is suffering from. Moved by the fearlessness spirit of Chinese people in face of the epidemic, he chooses to stand up and join in. With the approval of the community, Olatoye becomes a volunteer in community epidemic prevention. 

 

"The government and people are closely working together. Everyone, doctors, police, workers, and other ordinary people, is supporting their country." According to him, this sort of unity brings about reassurance and confidence among overseas students and ignites the passion of Olatoye.

 

Olatoye said his mother was worried after she learned about the epidemic situation in China, but he told her not to worry and everything was fine here. Studying pharmaceutical engineering, Olatoye pays close attention to every progress in the research of the virus. He believes that with advanced medical technology and unremitting efforts of the experts and medical staff, China will soon develop the medicine to combat the virus and get the final victory.
