Jiangsu convened a work conference on the construction of major projects in Wuxi City on January 2, the first working day of the New Year. Xin Changxing, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee addressed the meeting, chaired by governor Xu Kunlin.

The conference outlined Jiangsu’s annual plan for the major projects, and introduced the projects to be commenced in the first quarter. In addition to an increase in quantity and scale compared to last year, Jiangsu highlighted the role of scientific and technological innovation and green transformation.

To stimulate private investment, the province will arrange 200 key industrial projects this year. In the first quarter, the province plans to start 2,807 projects each worth over 100 million yuan, an increase of 97 from last year.

Xin stressed the importance of key projects in implementing the spirit of the Central Economic Work Conference, fostering new quality productive forces, and advancing high-quality development. More efforts should be made to consolidate and enhance the economic recovery momentum, focusing on projects that can upgrade traditional industries, strengthen emerging industries, and cultivate future industries, as well as those beneficial to green and low-carbon transformation, according to Xin.

Xin emphasized that attention should also be given to small projects and labor-intensive projects, with the aim of forming distinctive development advantages and promoting the development of new industries, new business formats, and new growth drivers. Jiangsu should optimize services, address practical concerns of enterprises, and mobilize all positive factors to ensure a good start and steady progress in project construction.

Xu also said that localities and departments should combine project construction and reforms, and coordinate industrial projects with projects designed for enhancing people's livelihoods, thus contributing more to high-quality development and modernization.

While visiting Wuxi, Xin and Xu also inspected the ecological environment management of Taihu Lake. Last year, the lake’s water quality reached Grade III.
