Realistic drama "Upstream" leads box office chart

BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese movie "Upstream" topped the daily box office chart on the Chinese mainland on its first day of release, with a revenue of 38.69 million yuan (about 5.42 million U.S. dollars) on Friday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network.

Directed by Xu Zheng, the film tells the story of a middle-aged man who becomes a food delivery guy after being laid off from a tech company, and eventually regains his courage and confidence with the help of his friends in the trade. By 6 p.m. Saturday, its box office takings had reached 112 million yuan, according to box office tracker Dengta Data.

It was followed by domestic comedy "Successor" on the daily box office chart, which grossed about 32.31 million yuan on Friday, leading to an accumulated box office of 2.84 billion yuan over 25 days.

Domestic historical drama "Decoded" came in third with a revenue of 12.99 million yuan on the day.

The total box office revenue on the Chinese mainland on Friday stood at around 106.96 million yuan.
