Dance drama A Dream of the Red Mansions makes sold-out debut in Taiwan

The mainland Chinese dance adaptation of A Dream of the Red Mansions completed its premiere Taiwan run on June 22 after four consecutive sold-out performances. 

Around 6,000 Taiwanese theatergoers enjoyed the dance drama produced by the Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts at Taipei Performing Arts Center, experiencing the classical aesthetic of traditional Chinese culture. 

The critically acclaimed performance captivated audiences with its authentic interpretation of the Chinese literary classic, showcasing Eastern artistic traditions through elaborate choreography and staging. 

Ticket demand exceeded supply when sales opened in April, with all performances selling out within hours.  

Written by Cao Xueqin of the Qing Dynasty, A Dream of Red Mansions is one of the four ancient Chinese literature classics and has been a constant inspiration for artists.  

Premiering in 2021, the dance drama has gained wide popularity and has been staged for more than 300 shows in over 30 cities around China and in Singapore.
