Xuyi opens renowned crayfish festival

Jiangsu’s Xuyi County, a well-known crayfish production hub in China, opened its 25th crayfish festival on June 12, 2025. The festival’s main highlight—the crayfish feast—will run for three days, with 30,000 tickets already sold and an estimated 100 tonnes of crayfish expected to be consumed.

As the festival has grown over the years, the county’s Yushi Crayfish Group has transformed from a small restaurant with just three or four tables into a large-scale enterprise.

Today, approximately 210,000 people—nearly a quarter of the county’s population—are engaged in the crayfish industry, spanning farming, processing, catering, e-commerce and tourism. The highly sought-after seasonal delicacy continues to attract an increasing number of food enthusiasts and tourists each summer.
