Jiangsu attracts over 12.4 million visits during Dragon Boat Festival holiday

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from May 31 to June 2, major tourism sites across Jiangsu received more than 12.41 million visits, generating tourism revenue of 4.693 billion yuan, according to the provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

These destinations include A-level scenic spots, provincial-level tourism villages, major night-time cultural and tourism consumption zones, museums, and national-level tourist resorts.

The traditional Chinese holiday featured a variety of cultural and tourism activities across the province, such as demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage, folk experiences, music performances and exhibitions. Highlights included dragon boat races along the Grand Canal and markets showcasing China-chic products and intangible cultural heritage crafts.

According to ticketing platform Damai.cn, a total of 584 performances were held province-wide over the holiday, attracting 287,000 attendees despite rainy weather - a year-on-year increase of 352%.

Dragon boat racing, a signature event in the festival, were staged in locations such as Lishui in Nanjing, the Li Canal in Huai’an, and Fenhu Lake in Suzhou. Meanwhile, the Jiangsu Football City League boosted holiday tourism, with matches drawing around 90,000 spectators.

During the holiday period, 65 museums in Jiangsu extended their opening hours, 16 museums launched themed night tours, and also offered educational programs and study tours.
