Jiangsu's Q1 GDP up 5.9%, and Suzhou leads with 600+ bln yuan

Jiangsu's GDP reached over 3.308 trillion yuan in the first quarter of this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.9%, according to the province’s Department of Statistics on May 7. All 13 cities with subordinate districts in Jiangsu recorded GDPs exceeding 100 billion yuan in the period.

As a leading economic powerhouse in the Yangtze River Delta, Suzhou continued to top the province with a GDP of 609.568 billion yuan, nearly one-fifth of the provincial total. Nanjing and Wuxi ranked second and third respectively, followed by Nantong in fourth place.

Among Suzhou’s development highlights, high-tech manufacturing enterprises contributed to 36.9% of the total output of industrial enterprises above designated size in the first quarter, representing a year-on-year growth of 7.9%.

Eight of the 13 large cities outpaced the provincial average GDP growth rate. Huai’an secured the fastest growth rate at 7.0%, followed by Suqian and Yangzhou.
