Jiangsu's GDP grows by 5.9% in Q1

Jiangsu’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 5.9% year on year to over 3.3 trillion yuan in the first quarter, according to the provincial statistics department on April 22.

As one of China’s economic powerhouses, Jiangsu saw stable agricultural production and continued growth in industrial output. The wholesale and retail, accommodation and catering, information technology, leasing and business services sectors also posted steady growth.

In the first quarter, fixed-asset investment rose by 0.4% year-on-year. Specifically, investment in the primary and secondary industries expanded by 1.0% and 9.6%, respectively, while investment in the tertiary industry declined by 7.9%.

The province’s per capita disposable income increased by 5.3% year-on-year. Total retail sales of consumer goods and online retail sales rose by 5.6% and 8.0%, respectively.
