Xuyi celebrates Lantern Festival with grand parade
Xuyi, a county in Jiangsu Province renowned as the "crayfish capital of China”, hosted a grand parade with over 800 participants along its main Yingbin Road on February 11 to celebrate the Lantern Festival.
The traditional Chinese festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month, fell on February 12 this year, marking the conclusion of the Spring Festival. The parade featured twinkling fish lanterns, swaying floral boats, and exuberant dragon and lion dances.
After completing the 2.8-kilometer route, the parade procession circled the county’s Crayfish Festival Square, which was bustling with spectators. Thirteen teams from various towns in Xuyi delivered a captivating folk performance that enchanted both locals and tourists.
"This celebration honors the Lantern Festival and our cultural traditions," said Sun Peipei, head of the county’s cultural center. "We have researched and helped each town to showcase a unique aspect of their traditional culture, allowing the audience to appreciate the rich cultural heritage and distinctive folk customs while enjoying the performances."
