Nanjing released the Nanjing Port Overall Plan (2024-2035) on October 23 as part of its efforts to establish a regional shipping and logistics hub of national importance.

The city plans to invest 40 billion yuan over the next three years into 32 projects, including wharf renovations, the development of multimodal transportation centers connecting roads, railways, and waterways, and the opening of more shipping routes to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Currently, Nanjing is home to about 85 high-end shipping service enterprises, ranking second only to Shanghai in the Yangtze River Delta region. According to the plan, Nanjing Port will be structured around an overall layout of "one port, thirteen areas," comprising six public transport port areas, three port-based industrial service areas, and four passenger port areas. The port also aims to accommodate 245 berths with a capacity of 9.6 million TEUs.
