Century-old Phoenix Contact aims for new development in China
Frank Stührenberg, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Phoenix Contact, chose Lishui District of Nanjing City for the first stop in his visit to China. On July 9, he toured a new facility under construction in the district, also the group’s third plant in China.
The site features three four-story buildings nearing completion. With an investment of about $25 million, the plant is set to have an annual production capacity of one million AC and DC charging cables as well as one million vehicle charging inlets.

Founded in 1923 and headquartered in Germany, Phoenix Contact is a family-owned global leader in manufacturing device connectors, industrial components, electronics and automation. It’s also among the first nine manufacturing companies recognized in the Global Lighthouse Network. Phoenix Contact China, which entered the Chinese market in 1993, serves as the group’s largest production and research and development base overseas, with an all-Chinese management team. Gu Jiandang, general manager of Phoenix Contact China, announced 2024 as the “first year of the second venture” in his New Year's message. The company plans to focus on digital transformation, intelligent manufacturing and Industry 4.0, aiming to empower businesses across various sectors and promote China's industrial development. It also aims to ramp up investment in the electric vehicles sector.
China’s vast market, efficient commercialization of technological achievements, and leadership in sectors like new energy make the county a powerhouse for the intelligent and digital transformation of industries, thus offering rich opportunities for foreign-funded companies.
