Yangzhou launches poetic Grand Canal cultural route

Yangzhou City launched a tour route on July 4 as part of the 2024 Grand Canal Culture and Reading initiative, organized by the Yangzhou Library, the Capital Library of China and the Nanjing Library.

Inspired by poetry associated with the city, the route integrates landmarks including pedestrian streets, tourist attractions and public spaces for readers, providing participants a multisensory journey to explore the ancient waterway system and the city’s long history.

Departing from the Yangzhou Library, the tour bus passes the park centered on the mausoleum of Emperor Yang from the Sui Dynasty (581-618), the Daming Temple (Pingshan Hall), the Slender West Lake, the China Grand Canal Origin Park, Dongguan Ancient Ferry, Wenchang Pavilion, Wenfeng Temple, and Guazhou Ancient Ferry, before finally arriving at the Sanwan City Reading Room.

Yangzhou will also host a cultural market on July 6 at the Sanwan City Reading Room, showcasing creative products related to the Grand Canal and the city’s folk culture. Visitors can make crafts and participate in other activities designed to deepen their awareness of the canal’s rich cultural heritage.
