Meeting promotes cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries

A meeting was held on June 4 in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province to promote the economic and trade cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries.

Representatives from Portugal, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and other countries met their Jiangsu counterparts to discuss opportunities for cooperation and development.

Jiangsu has formed 13 pairs of sister cities with 9 Portuguese-speaking countries. The province has created 6 industrial cooperation promotion groups focusing on investment and trade, education, culture and tourism, agriculture, infrastructure construction and health, facilitating exchanges and collaboration with Portuguese-speaking nations.

Nantong has entered into sister-city relationships with 28 cities across 17 countries and is home to over 3,800 foreign-funded enterprises, including investments from 60 Fortune Global 500 companies.

"We hope this meeting can mark a new beginning to strengthen cooperation in textiles, construction, petrochemicals, manufacturing and agriculture," said Li You, vice mayor of Nantong.

Li also emphasized the city’s commitment to fostering a market-oriented and world-class business environment underpinned by robust legal framework.
